First Look: Civil War, Supernatural Forces, Justice, And Honor In ‘Blood & Fire’ #1

by Brendan M. Allen

I love a good Spaghetti Western. Er… Samurai flick. Give me a Fistful of Dollars or a Yojimbo any day of the week. Red 5 is jumping into the genre this May with Blood & Fire #1. The samurai story is written by Aaron Wroblewski, drawn by Ezequiel Rubio Lancho, and lettered by Es Kay.

The series takes place during Sengoku-Jidai, while Japan is in chaos. The central government has lost control after centuries of rule, plunging the country into a bloody civil war. Anarchy reigns as warlords seek power and territory.

Following Lord Ishida’s death after many months of illness, his brother Nobutaka is next in line to rule.  But their youngest brother, Kiyotane, is not content to sit on the sidelines. Assaulting Castle Ishida in a surprise attack, Kiyotane has taken power, but he has not counted on a lone, loyal samurai surviving, with supernatural forces fueling his quest for justice and honor.
