‘House Of The Dragon’ Star Milly Alcock Is The New Supergirl In ‘Woman Of Tomorow’

Former House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock is headed to the stars in the title role of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Deadline reports the actor, who played the younger Rhaenyra Targaryen in the first several episode of the Game of Thrones spinoff series, has won the coveted Kara Zor-El role in the upcoming Supergirl feature. Based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Matheus Lopes, the tale sees a young alien woman journeying with Supergirl on a mission of revenge and revelation. The Kara depicted in its pages is less of the squeaky-clean Supergirl seen in the CW series or the 1984 feature film, but one who proved to be quite dynamic. In fact, upon learning DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn was using Woman of Tomorrow as a starting point, we ran out to read it and saw immediately why this story was chosen. And if it keeps the book’s entirely-in-space setting, it could set itself apart from just about every DC film ever made.

In the last few weeks, Alcock’s name emerged alongside Emilia Jones and Meg Donnelly as the top three choices to assume the cape and S-shield. The trio confirmed Gunn’s wish to find a woman who more closely resembled Kara’s classic look, but Alcock’s ascension also suggests he wants her to be as tough as possible. Sadly, the previous Kara, Sasha Calle — who appeared in The Flash feature film — had the grit for a Woman of Tomorrow, but not a look that conformed to Gunn’s vision or the Warner Bros. Discovery corporate strategy.

Although, it remains to be seen how much Gunn’s vision will matter as the project is still without a director or confirmed screenwriter.

Those creative participants will likely be the next people to lock down. Reports indicate Kara may make an appearance in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy, necessitating locking Alcock into a long-term contract ahead of her solo feature. If she does appear in that film, expect to get a first glimpse at her take on Supergirl in 2025.
