Previewing The ‘Dungeons & Dragons Classic Collection’ G-J

Welcome to the table,
The majority of my long-running campaigns focus on or feature civilizations of undead and their strange abandoned kingdoms crawling with ghosts and ghouls. As a Storyteller, it is always difficult when you are trying to evoke worry and wonder in your players . You describe a spirit summoned forth from the beyond, whose very presence causes a thin line of frost to form along their weapons and the torches to snuff as all warmth leaves the dust filled chamber… and then you plop a D6 on the table because you just don’t have a good ghost miniature on hand to go with the epic story moment.
It does not matter how cool the Dimilitch’s minions are, a D6 is going to cause your players to instantly start tossing jokes around and take the edge off what could be a fun cool atmospheric moment.
I’m here to tell you with the WizKids Classic Collection of Monsters G-J you can now level up your haunting in-game moments at the table in a way I was not expecting until I flipped open the collectible case lid and was blown away by the minis held within.
I have been a fan of the previous releases of the Classic Collection of Monsters but this is easily my favorite offering so far. This collection contains the Ghost, Ghoul, Gorgon, Griffin, Harpy, Hellhound, Hippocampus, and Imp in all their dazzling retro glory and let me tell you they are nothing short of glorious.
The ghoul is a spectacular sculpt really getting across the feral nature of this undead threat. The paint job on this pre-painted mini is one of the best I have seen, blending the crimsons and greys in a way that makes this mini feel like it has been digging through fresh graves looking for its next meal.
The ghost is one of my favorite WizKids miniatures to date. Cast in a semitransparent plastic with a core and lantern cast of black, this mini comes together in a way that is nothing short of perfection. I would buy box sets of ghosts that were crafted in this style just to have more of these delightful little horrors haunt various landscapes my players are exploring.
The collectible box the Classic Collection of Monsters comes in also adds such a nice uniform look to your classic D&D bookshelf really falling into the same old-school aesthetic in a way that is both charming and stylish.
