Planet Comicon Kansas City 25th Anniversary — Cosplay Contest Registration Now Open

Planet Comicon Kansas City 25th Anniversary Cosplay Contest entries are now open. PCKC ‘24  is an opportunity to showcase the awesome cosplay skills from both local and visiting cosplayers, based on craftsmanship and character portrayal.

On Saturday March 9, 2024 in the Grand Ballroom 2501 AB, the 2024 Planet Comicon Kansas City Cosplay Contest will take place, sponsored by B&B Theaters, 3DHQ, and Nebraska Furniture Mart. Emceed by Ming Chen and Luna Flare, this year’s contest will feature a massive $15,000 prize pool. 

Contestants are encouraged to register quickly, as only a very limited number of contestants will be selected to compete.

Entrants will be selected in the following classes. Duos and groups must enter at the class level of the individual who has the highest Class. If you are entering as a pair, and one entrant is a Master and the other is a Beginner, the duo must register as Master Class.  

Beginner

This class is for anyone who has never won a major award before at any other convention. A minimum of 50% of the costume must be made by the contestant(s).

Intermediate

This is the class for anyone who has won 1-2 major awards at any convention. 60% of the costume must be made by the contestant(s).

Master

In this class, entrants have won 3 or more major awards in a cosplay contest. Entrants that have previously won Best in Show at any cosplay contest of similar or larger size to PCKC, or who make or sell cosplay costumes professionally are asked to also enter this class. 75% of the costume must be made by the contestant(s).

If you are unsure if your costume meets a percentage requirement, please contact the Cosplay Contest Directors, who will be happy to assist. Cosplay Contest Directors reserve the right to move entries to another category or class if it is deemed appropriate for the sake of the integrity of the contest.

There are four categories in which to register. All categories are judged equally and all are eligible for Best in Show prizes, provided all other parameters are met. 

Needlework

For costumes created predominantly by sewing, embroidery, and fabricraft. Sewn leather costumes may enter this category as well.

Foamwork

For costumes created predominantly from foam products, such as eva foam, rigid foam, expanding foam, etc.  Worbla-covered-EVA foam cosplays would also fall in this category. 

Mixed Media

For cosplays that feature animatronics, prosthetics, special effects, plastic, PVC, metal, latex or a variety of media that aren’t exclusively needlework or foamwork.

Group

Team chemistry and costume making skills! This category is for groups of 3-6 cosplayers, with at least 50% of each costume made by at least one member of the group. Craftsmanship of the group costumes will be judged based on the individual with the highest class in the group. If your group is classed as Master, each costume in the group must be at least 75% hand-made by at least one contestant in the group.
