‘Next Goal Wins’ Is Taika Waititi’s Comeback Film

With hits like JoJo Rabbit and Thor Ragnarok Taika Waititi established himself as the auteur filmmaker to look out for. However, with the less-than-stellar Thor: Love and Thunder and more projects teased on the horizon, many felt that Waititi may have gotten too big too fast.
That’s why its great to see Waititi return to his indie film roots to deliver Next Goal Wins. The film is a charming dramedy about the underdog American Samoa soccer team. The colorful cast of characters spotlight American Samoan traditions and trans-identity in a fun and engaging sports film. I wasn’t expecting to be so moved by the film as I was. Sometimes in life you need to accomplish just one goal to feel like a winner.
