Adult Animation Revolution: ‘Batman Beyond’ Feature Film Pitched To Warner Brothers

There’s a new concept for a Batman Beyond feature film from Writer/Director Patrick Harpin (My Dad the Bounty Hunter) and Production Designer/Producer Yuhki Demers (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Verse). The concept film would presumably be in a cel-shaded comic book aesthetic and take inspiration from the 1999 Batman Beyond animated series.
Demers had this to say:
“5 months ago Patrick Harpin walked into Warner Bros Pictures / DC and pitched a Batman Beyond Animated Feature. Before we pitched, they warned us “there is absolutely no way we can do a [Batman] Beyond movie”, but they loved our enthusiasm. We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a ‘never’ turned into a ‘maybe’. In the time since, we’ve been pitching our way up the company hoping to get to James Gunn. But for now, here’s a taste of what we’ve been cooking.”
I recently discovered Batman Beyond, and in my opinion, it holds up even better than Batman: The Animated Series. Batman Beyond is a more youthful take on the Batman universe that never talks down to its audience. The series also has a cyberpunk cool factor that never devolves into edgy for the sake of being edgy. It’s been 25 years and now is the perfect time to introduce Terry McGinnis to a new generation of Bat-fans.
