Native American/Western Werewolf OGN ‘Homestead’ Triples Funding Goal With Two Weeks Remaining

The Kickstarter campaign for Homestead: A Native American/Western Werewolf Graphic Novel is in the home stretch with just under two remaining weeks. As of this writing, the campaign has nearly triple funded, with $17,535 already pledged of the $6,666.66 goal.
The 100-page horror graphic novel focuses on how far two 19th century families will go to defend their respective ways of life.
It is 1868 in North Dakota. Retired soldier Bill Simmons is starting a new life with his family on land issued to him as part of the Homestead Act. Unbeknownst to him, the land he has been granted by the United States government overlaps with territories occupied by the Lakota Nation. In response, a proud warrior and a zealous medicine man willing to go to supernatural extremes in order to protect people, their loved ones, and their way of life.
What results is an equally horrific and heartbreaking battle as these two parties wage an intense and isolated war with each other as they both try to protect what they feel is theirs by any means necessary…
The book boasts a creative team of writer Dirk Manning, artist Les Garner, colorist Colin Johnson, letterer Dave Lentz, editor Drena Jo, and Lakota creative consultant Rau Redsky Blackhawk.

“One of the most important things for me in Homestead,” writer Dirk Manning told Comicon, “was to make sure it didn’t present as a story about ‘good guys’ versus ‘bad guys’ – even as things get more and more escalated and extreme as the werewolf component of the story comes into play. This isn’t a story about good versus evil, but rather about two families – two cultures – that are being forced into conflict with each other by systems and circumstances larger than them.
“Like all horror stories – or at least all good ones, in my opinion – Homestead is about what happens when characters are pushed well past their comfort zones. When your reality is disrupted – to the point where it threatens not only your own life, but the life of your loved ones – what do you do? How far will you go? That’s one of the fundamental questions we’re exploring in this story – both from the side of the Lakota as well as the settler and his family.
