Commentary: ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Skipped A Pivotal Character Moment

Pivotal character moments are the bread and butter of any long form storytelling. These are confrontations that build up over episodes — even seasons — that explode when two forces finally come together after a long period of time. Star Wars excels at this. The storytelling takes its time, building up tension and suspense before unloading it in dramatic fashion. Which is why it’s so strange that a recent episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch skipped an entire scene that fans had been waiting a very long time for.

As a series, The Bad Batch began with their sniper, Crosshair (Dee Bradley Baker), essentially betraying the group to the Empire. While the Bad Batch went on the run with Omega (Michelle Ang), Crosshair worked for the Empire as a loyal soldier. However, he ultimately turned on the Empire when he realized he was disposable to them. He was locked up, but later escaped with Omega’s help. The two of them reunited with the rest of the Bad Batch, and Crosshair had to finally confront the teammates he crossed.

Unfortunately, this immediate scene was never shown. The episode ended on a cliffhanger of Crosshair about to say hello and then the next episode cuts to a time much later. Fans never got to see what happened during this immediate meeting. Of course, there was a confrontation that took place between Crosshair and Hunter. It just happened much later in the subsequent episode. But fans are no doubt curious as to what they initially said to each other when Crosshair came aboard their ship. Perhaps it’s a scene that could be added in the form of a clip or even a short. Either way, it feels strange that the moment was omitted, especially when Star Wars lives off of this kind of drama.
