Up Close And Personal With Fanhome’s ‘E.T.: The Extraterrestrial Build-Up’ Subscription Kit

by Brendan M. Allen

In the 80s, a stout little brown alien captivated moviegoers and became an icon for an entire generation. Now he’s back! Step by step, you can assemble a faithfully rendered replica of E.T.: the Extra-Terrestrial and rediscover Steven Spielberg’s incredible movie.

I remember seeing E.T. for the first time. It came out when I was four, so I never saw it in the theater, but we definitely had the laserdisc that dropped in ‘88, nestled between Friday the 13th and Disney’s Alice in Wonderland

When I saw Fanhome’s E.T. Build-Up at NYCC 2023, I was blown away. The attention to detail and faithfulness to Carlo Rambaldi’s original creature design is incredible. It lights up. It moves. It’s a little creepy. I had to have it. And now I do. The first few chunks of the little guy, anyway.

I’m on my second monthly installment. So far, I have the first five  building stages. In the video, I talk about ease of assembly, bonus items in the boxes, and the shock of opening boxes to find random body parts, like an avulsed face or an amputated finger.

My wife hates that little light-up finger by the way. It’s just a little too realistic for her taste. Apparently, it’s ‘immature’ and ‘unacceptable’ to chase her around the house with it yelling ‘Ouch’ and ‘Beeeeeeee gooooood’ in the Asogian’s raspy, nasal voice.
