Review: ‘Gargoyles Quest’ #1 Has An Odd View

Summary
The Manhattan clan of Gargoyles face new challenges and opportunities. However, their old foe Demona is searching for three items of power. Will they be able to stop her? Even if they do how will it affect them and their new status with humanity?
Overall
6.5/10Writer Greg Weisman creates a strong enough script. The only major problems from the script are the poor planning of one panel and not providing a standard story set-up.
Artist Pasquale Qualano has a more realistic than cartoony style. Unfortunately, Qualano too often uses a worm’s eye view for perspective.
Colorists Giovanna La Pietra and Valeria Verdi enhance the realism with the hues they choose for skin pigmentations. Also the palettes for each page feel wide-ranging.
Letterer Jeff Eckleberry does an excellent job when it comes to placing the text, particularly when it comes to the word balloons without anchors. Eckleberry also does a fine job with emphasis via the bolding of text.
Covers A, D, F, J, and N are by artist Clayton Crain. All of the covers feature the same image, but the latter three do not have a trade dress. It is possibly to consider the lack of trade dress an improvement. However, this reviewer thinks that it causes the image to look like a small poster. Yet, no matter which way one leans the quality is definitely extremely high.
Variant covers E and K are both blank, but K does have a stone grey color. Thus, there is no visual to critique.
Artist Drew Moss is the creator of covers C, H, M, P, and Q. The latter two covers have a different image than the first three. Also the latter two are Kickstarter exclusive. Arguably, cover H is atrocious due to the lack of a break in the color scheme. Though even with the break on covers C and M the perspective and background due not mesh well. While the other covers are of debatable quality due to how moss seems to shift a horizontal design to vertical. This, plus the dutch angle, causes a crowding of elements.
Covers B, G, I , L, and O all feature an image by artist Jae Lee. Colorist June Chung provides colors for covers B, I, and L. The image has a great amount of depth and good proportions. As for the hues, they enhance the sense of realism and atmosphere. Arguably, the design is rather generic due to its simplicity.
Artist Mel Milton is responsible for two retailer exclusive covers. The visual is high quality despite using certain clichés elements.
