Owen Michael Johnson Produces New Graphic Novel ‘The Mirage’
by Olly MacNamee
You may know of Owen Michael Johnson as the editor of the hugely successful Best of 2000 AD that our very own 2000 AD expert, Richard Bruton, has been covering. Well, I also know him as an indie comic book creator who produced the very personal semi-autobiographical graphic novel Reel Love some years back now, before his life got busy as one of Tharg’s minions. Well, he has a new graphic novel, The Mirage, with letters by Colin Bell coming out, and debuting at his very own comic and zine fair in Oxford this May 4th. And we have an exclusive preview to share with you all below:

“Las Vegas, 1979.
Disillusioned lounge pianist Sid Crystal wastes his nights playing support for bent crooner Ellery Banks – The Ice Cream Dream.
But when cocktail waitress Carla Hardcastle approaches Crystal with a proposition at the hotel & casino of his residency, he begins to feel his luck might change…
A mid-century heist comic book by two-time British Comic Award nominated writer & cartoonist Owen Michael Johnson (Raygun Roads, Beast Wagon, Reel Love) perfect for fans of The Coen Brother’s Raising Arizona, Brian De Palma’s Carlito’s Way and the Parker graphic novels of Darwyn Cooke.
Includes the back-up essay ‘Star Treatment’“
