‘Tales From The Shire: A Lord Of The Rings Game’ To Offer A Cozy Trip To Middle-earth

by Sage Ashford

Tired of going to Middle-earth for the sole purpose of fighting?  Developer Weta Workshop and publisher Private Division have the perfect adventure in mind, as they give players a glimpse of Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game.  Like it’s implied in the title, Tales of the Shire puts players in the role of a Hobbit helping to build the underdeveloped town of Bywater.

Rather than combat, the focus is on developing the settlement into a thriving community. The mission means exploring parts of the Shire and meeting familiar Hobbit families, figuring out how to build enough of a food stockpile to feed even the healthiest of Hobbits, and more.

This feels like a smart and well-timed attempt to get in on the ever-expanding “cozy game” market, but they certainly picked a setting that fits. Given how much of the Lord of the Rings books were about how fighting and power weren’t enough to beat back the darkness, this might be the game that best captures the LotR essence.

Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game launches this fall for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Xbox Series.
