Art For Art’s Sake: Lake Como Artists Special (Part 2)

Bringing you two of our favourite things – great comic festivals and great comic art, we’re taking a look at the comics work of the full line-up of guests at the wonderful Lake Como Comic Art Festival, in a series of Art For Art’s Sake specials…
Now we continue out coverage of the Lake Como Comic Art Festival with another set of some of the 70 artists they have appearing at the festival.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Villa Erba, on the shores of Lake Como, Italy, LCCAF is a festival like no other, designed to be quieter, more relaxed, more intimate than the huge festivals and cons you might be used to. With the attendance of fans limited to just 1,000, it’s the perfect place to get hold of sketches and commissions, chat comics and art, and just enjoy yourself.
Now in its fifth year, the Festival prides itself in being all about the art and the artists, and it’s an incredible array of artistic talent on show this year. Iconic European artists including Libertore, Jordi Bernet, and Blacksad’s Juanjo Guarnido rub shoulders with the finest US artists such as Bill Sienkiewicz, Bill Morrison, Charles Vess, Sara Pichelli, and Simone Bianchi, as well as some big name Brits including Jock and Simon Bisley. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg where it comes to the art. Which is where the idea for these Art for Art’s Sake posts came to mind – to showcase just what a great selection of artists were there, I figured it was best to showcase them. Of course, when I first had the idea it was to do one article with one piece of art. But have you ever tried to narrow down the brilliance of someone like Bernet in just one image? So instead, I’m breaking the list up into four posts and choosing some of my favourite works from them.
LCCAF runs from Friday May 17th to Sunday May 19th at the Villa Erba in Cernobbio, Lake Como, Italy. It all begins on the Friday night with an opening reception followed by two full days of comics festival.
