The ’90s Tornado Classic ‘Twister’ Is Ready To Get Extreme In 4K

Flying cows, “The Suck Zone,” Helen Hunt, and the late, great Bill Paxton. That’s right: Twister is coming to 4K for the first time.
Before the belated reboot/sequel Twisters hits screens later this year, return to a time of simpler summer blockbusters, when audiences were completely blown away by computer generated storm clouds and a plot so thin it could be obliterated by a light breeze. Hunt and Paxton play storm chasers with a romantic past who risk it all to document the biggest tornado on record. That’s really all there is to it.
Directed by Jan De Bont (Speed), and co-written by Jurassic Park mastermind Michael Crichton, Twister also brought together one of the weirdest supporting casts of the decade: Jamie Gertz, Cary Elwes, Jake Busey, Alan Ruck, a young Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tony winner Lois Smith, and future Oscar nominated director Todd Field.
Extras include several featurettes including a new one called “The Legacy of Twister – Taken by the Wind,” the music video for Van Halen‘s “Humans Being” (are we sure this was 1996?), and an audio commentary with de Bont and visual effects supervisor Stefen Fangmeier.
Fun fact: Twister was the first theatrical feature to be released on the DVD format in March of 1997. If you still have your copy, it’s time for an upgrade. Twister will be available on 4K Ultra HD and Digital July 9th.
