‘Blood Hunt’ Will Continue To Have Shockwaves After It’s Over (SPOILERS)

by Tony Thornley

Marvel’s massive Blood Hunt crossover is already making waves as an event. It’s an event story that knows what it is and does try to be anything more.

In the first issue of the story, T’Challa and Stephen Strange both fell, and readers saw both heroes turned into bloodsuckers- a story beat spoiled in solicitations. At the end of the event series’ second issue a third major hero was revealed to have turned, and his vampirism is going to have consequences long after the event ends in July.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD FOR BLOOD HUNT #2

Ready for this? There’s still time to turn back.

As heavily foreshadowed in the first issue, and hinted at on the cover of Blood Hunt  #3, Miles Morales has indeed been transformed into a vampire by the King of Vampires himself, Blade. Now, this was a pretty big shocker — even with the cover reveal, as we all know comics covers are never 100% reliable. And though it appears T’Challa and Strange may both have their humanity restored by the end of the series, Miles will not.

As revealed this week at Marvel.com, Miles will continue to battle his newfound vampirism in August’s Miles Morales: Spider-Man #23 from Cody Ziglar and Federico Vincentini. The issue’s cover even sees Miles sinking his teeth into the neck of his girlfriend, Starling! Miles has to find a cure, or everyone in his life- his parents, his sister, his friends- is in grave danger. And Brooklyn’s only hope against a vampire Spider-Man might be none other than his arch-nemesis- the Vulture!

“I’m looking forward to having Miles juggle the pressures of being a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man with the added threat of not knowing if he’ll snap at any moment,” Ziglar shared. “Being stuck in a constant aggressive fight or flight mode when you can lift 10 tons will present some interesting dilemmas for our boy.”

Check out Vincentini’s cover to the issue above, and watch for Miles Morales: Spider-Man #23 in August from Marvel Comics.
