Jean Grey Is Fire & Life Incarnate In New ‘Phoenix’ Variant Covers

by Tony Thornley

If X-Men From The Ashes is an accurate title for any character, it’s Jean Grey-Summers. In a new batch of variants from Marvel, Jean rises like the Phoenix once again.

The new series, from Stephanie Phillips & Alessandro Miraccolo, will find Jean re-embracing the Phoenix after her rebirth in Rise of the Powers of X #5. This will put her on a galactic scale on the same level as Nova or Thor. It’s a completely unique status for any X-Man that will be a hell of a lot of fun to read.

Now Marvel has revealed the rest of the first issue’s variant covers, from Rose Besch, Greg Land, Aka, and Peach Momoko. And continuing the trend with many of Marvel’s major launches, Phoenix #1 will have a fiery Foil Variant Cover—drawn by Marvel legend Joe Quesada.

In an interview with CBR, who also shared an exclusive first look, Phillips teased, “Thematically, I’m interested in exploring the interplay between human and cosmic forces that is happening within Jean. Some in the cosmic universe know her as Jean Grey, and some fear her as the Phoenix. I want us to explore how that will impact her mission as a hero in the stars. The book also looks at the hierarchy of the cosmos and where Jean fits into the hierarchy. There are some incredibly powerful entities out in space… what will they think of Jean’s presence as the Phoenix?”

Check out the variants from Phoenix #1 and watch for the debut issue in July from Marvel Comics.
