Peter Parker Faces His Dark Side In August’s ‘Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood’

by Tony Thornley

Marvel’s Black, White & Blood series have proven to be some of the most popular anthologies in the publisher’s history. Now, the publisher’s biggest name joins the line with a unique take on the format in Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood.

Wolverine, Deadpool, Moon Knight, Darth Vader and Darth Maul have all gotten their spotlight in the spot color anthology format. Given their violent tendencies, Spider-Man seems like an unusual next choice. But the web-slinger joins the fray in one of his darkest, and iconic, moments.

Featuring superstar creators from all across Spider-Man’s history, the anthology celebrates the anniversary of the black suit’s debut during Secret Wars. The series will show dark consequences of the costume on Peter Parker’s psyche, while also celebrating the legacy of arguably Spider-Man’s best costume.

The first issue will feature:

·       J.M. DeMatteis returns to his masterpiece “Kraven’s Last Hunt” alongside Elena Casagrande with an unforgiving story that sheds new light on an iconic scene.

·       J. Michael Straczynski and artist Sumit Kumar in his Marvel Comics debut rips Peter Parker’s (and the symbiote’s) heart out! A last vestige of the symbiote has stayed with Peter all these years, waiting for the right moment to tear Spidey down!

·       Dustin Nguyen writes and draws a spine-chilling tale of Spider-Man being HUNTED. But how can he hope to escape when the danger comes from within?
