Annecy Animation Festival 2024: Genndy Tartakovsky Pitches New Adult Animated Comedy Live on Stage

During the 2024 Annecy Animation Film Festival acclaimed director Genndy Tartakovsky did something unprecedented and pitched a new animated series in front of a live audience and executives at Adult Swim.
The proposed series titled Heist Safari would be an adult comedy about a trio of bothers trying to pull off a dangerous heist. The concept is similar to Guy Ricthie’s Snatch but with anthropomorphic animals and Tartakovsky’s design sense for caricature. The limited series would embrace formalism with each episode being told out of chronological order. Additionally each episode would be one continuous shot similar to Bird Man or 1917. The soundtrack and pacing for the series is inspired by Electronic Dance Music. Tartakovsky’s goal is to make the animated series you can’t look away from in the age of digital distraction.
It’s unclear how far along Heist Safari is in development. Tartakovsky already has several projects on his plate including Primal season 3 and the feature films Fixed and Black Knight for Sony. Heist Safari sounds radically different from anything we’ve seen from this creator before. But if anyone can pull off such a wacky concept it would be Genndy Tartakovsky.
