Gail Simone’s Shares Preview Pages For Her Upcoming ‘Action Comics’ Run Starting July

by Olly MacNamee

In a recent social media post by Gail Simone, writer of the upcoming new story arc on Action Comics #1067 – #1069, has shared three stunning full-coloured, unlettered pages by the grossly underrated artist Ed Barrows, with inks by Danny Miki and colours by Rex Lokus.

Seems, like me, she’s quite the fan of Burrows, and if you take a peak at this first look I think you’ll see why.

As for my first impressions? Well, based on the already available synopsis this is a story from Superman’s early career. But, how long ago? The fashion seems to come straight out of the ’70s, with Lois Lane looking ever like the urban, on-point fashionista she is as well as Clark’s wardrobe seemingly plucked from even further back in time, and much closer to his original look. Classic Hollywood. The classic black, red and yellow shield he sports as Superman is also a call back to his earliest appearances.

As for Superman eating the metal girder? Well, as Simone’s points out in a follow up tweet:,

Like what you see? Well, if so go talk to your local comic book store and ask them to save all three issues, starting with Action Comics #1067 on 17th July and followed up in Action Comics #1068 (August 14th) and then Action Comics #1069 (September 25th) from DC Comics.
