The Wait Changes As ‘Metroid Prime 4 Beyond’ Gets A New Subtitle

Nintendo showed off an incredibly exciting list of games in their Nintendo Direct Showcase last week. Alongside games like Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Mario & Luigi Brothership, and Marvel VS Capcom Fighting Collection, there was a final bombshell announcement: Metroid Prime 4 Beyond.

Longtime fans of the series were first shown a teaser back at E3 2017. An image just saying Metroid Prime 4 was shown and after that there was long silence from Nintendo. However, in January of 2019 there was an announcement that development had restarted under Retro Studios, the same production house that worked on the original Metroid Prime trilogy.

The return of Retro was incredible news for the fans of the Prime series, and their signature style is quickly evident in the recent trailer. It kicks off with Samus arriving onto a battlefield with space pirates who are trying to take over a Federation research facility. Instantly, the action kicks off and really gives the sense of danger these space pirates pose as the facility has taken some heavy damage. The beautiful and ominous music of Metroid Prime is also a standout during this preview, and it really gives the feeling of high stakes for Samus as she attempts to get into the research facility while it’s under siege. The big bombshell for Metroid fans drops at the end of the trailer as we see Sylux — one of the playable characters in Metroid Prime Hunters for the Nintendo DS — stand against Samus with some odd looking Metroids at his side. The mystery and continuation of the DS title has many fans, including myself, excited.

Metroid fans just need to hold off a little longer to enjoy the game. Nintendo is set to release Metroid Prime 4 Beyond on the Nintendo Switch in 2025.
