Iconic Cartoonist Chris Giarrusso Returns To Marvel With New ‘Venom War’ Variants

by Tony Thornley

Cartoonist Chris Giarrusso is best known to comics fans for his Mini Marvels comic strips and in August he returns to Marvel with the gooiest anti-heroes around. Venom War is coming this summer, and it promises to be a lot of fun.

Eddie Brock and Dylan Brock are both Venom, sharing the name and weight that it carries. But while both of them have acted alone across the timestream, they now both want to be the one true Venom. It’s a war that will reach the entire Marvel Universe!

Coming from superstars Al Ewing & Iban Coello, this event is the biggest Venom story since King in Black. And Giarrusso will be re-creating each of Coello’s covers in his distinctive Mini Marvels style for the entire five issue series.

“We’ve been telling our intricate time-travel Tale of Two Venoms for a good three years at this point, and it was always going to end with the two ends of the story crashing into each other,” Ewing told Newsarama, who also shared an exclusive first look. “In terms of sharing the mantle… it’s been a long time since Venom was just Eddie Brock, and what makes this particular mantle unique is that gaining or losing the symbiote is never the beginning or end of someone’s story – just a new chapter in it. So I think it’s not so much about feeling a push for a definitive version as it is about knowing when to end one chapter and start the next.”

Check out the first two covers and Giarrusso’s variants above and watch for Venom War on August 7, 2024, from Marvel Comics.
