SDCC2024: A New Spider-Girl Debuts This Fall From Marvel Comics

by Tony Thornley

Long gone are the days of Peter Parker being the only web-clad hero in the Marvel Universe. Now a new Spider-Girl will be joining the rapidly expanding Spider-Verse and making her debut this fall in Spider-Boy #12.

Bailey Briggs, the stupendous Spider-Boy made a pretty big splash with his debut in 2023. Though his retcon-filled debut was a bit rough, the character has grown and truly become an interesting addition to the Marvel Universe. It remains to be seen if the character ends up having the staying power of the likes of Kamala Khan or Miles Morales, or if he’ll end up in character limbo like Sam Alexander or Amadeus Cho.

Now, keeping with that tradition the next big star of the Spider-Verse will debut in Bailey’s series in October’s Spider-Boy #12. Created by Dan Slott and Michael Cho, Marvel promises that this mysterious new character will shake the web of Spider-Man even more than Spider-Boy did about a year ago.

This new character is not the first Marvel character to use the Spider-Girl name. In fact, there looks to be around 22 other characters who have used the name at one point or another. The most notable were Mayday Parker, the alternate future daughter of Peter Parker who headlined a Spider-Girl series over several volumes for nearly 200 issues, and Anya Corazon, who headlined a series of her own for nearly two years after Mayday’s concluded and continued to use the Spider-Girl name until late 2022.

So what will set this new character apart? We’ll see when she makes her official debut this October from Marvel Comics. In the meantime, check out the covers from her debut issue from Cho, Mark Bagley, Elizabeth Torque and Paco Medina!
