Advance Preview: ‘The Complete Rogue Trooper’ Volume 1

by Richard Bruton

The classic tales of the ultimate future warrior get a new lease of life with The Complete Rogue Trooper, beginning March 2025…

.

There’s never been a time when 2000 AD’s big blue genetic infantryman, the legendary Rogue Trooper, has been more in the ascendancy. The news of Duncan Jones’s animated movie, out in 2025, has led to a resurgence in new Rogue stories, including the excellent ‘Blighty Valley by Garth Ennis and Patrick Goddard. That’s not to mention the recently published Essential Rogue Trooper Volume 1.

Whilst the new material is more than welcome, especially when it’s of the quality of the aforementioned ‘Blighty Valley, and the Essential series cherrypicks the big stories, there’s still space for a complete – from the start – complete Rogue Trooper along the lines of the Judge Dredd Casefiles. In fact, there have been complete RT before, the Tales of Nu-Earth volumes, but now it’s time to do it all over ago, cool new design, as we get the new Complete Rogue Trooper collection, beginning in March 2025.

Absolutely no connection with all this lovely Rogue Trooper material we’re due to be getting, oh no, not at all!

.

Just in case you’re still in the dark about the whole thing… Rogue Trooper is very much the ultimate future warrior, a lone genetically-engineered soldier stalking the poisonous, war-torn landscape of Nu-Earth in the seemingly never-ending battle between the Norts and the Southers. Accompanied by the personalities of three of his dead comrades – Helm, Gunnar and Bagman – embedded into bio-chips in his rifle, helmet, and backpack, they’re on a mission to hunt down the man who betrayed them – The Traitor General.

Created in 1981 by writer Gerry Finley-Day and artist Dave Gibbons, Rogue’s adventures over the years have gone through plenty of highs, and some lows. Now, The Complete Rogue Trooper will collect the whole story, right from the beginning, with those tales by Finley-Day and Gibbons, as well as work from Alan Moore, Cam Kennedy, Brett Ewins, and Colin Wilson, including, from volume 2, previously uncollected material, meaning this really is the whole story, right from the beginning.
