Cult Documentary ‘American Movie’ To Make Its 4K Debut This Fall

That’s right — American Movie, the endlessly quotable documentary about filmmaking, witches, lotto tickets, and dreams, is primed to make its 4K debut in October.
The acclaimed 1999 Sundance Festival hit follows Mark Borchardt, a suburban Milwaukee man driven to complete his low-budget short horror film called Coven and launching his filmmaking career. The shaggy, hilariously opinionated amateur auteur enlists the help of local actors, skeptical family members, and his eccentric metalhead best friend, Mike Schank. Directed by Chris Smith (Tiger King), American Movie takes a unique, bittersweet look at the creative process, addiction, and obsessive ambition.
The film is presented in 4K with Dolby Vision English Mono DTS-HD audio. Special Features seem to be identical to the old DVD release, including director and cast commentary, deleted scenes, and — last but not least — the short film Coven in its entirety.
American Movie arrives on 4K Ultra HD October 15th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
