The New Kids Assemble In New ‘Exceptional X-Men’ #3 Variant Cover
by Tony Thornley
We’re just days away from meeting the new squad of X-Men being trained by Kate Pryde and Emma Frost. With the anticipation building for this new team, Marvel unveiled a new look at Exceptional X-Men #3, featuring the team all together.
The team created by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero definitely looks to be the most interesting of the From the Ashes era. The new kids don’t often jump straight to the X-Men name, and they’ve never been taught by Kitty Pryde, the original X-Men new kid. Axo, Melee and Bronze are definitely unique amongst generations of new mutants for both those reasons.

Kate and Emma Frost have developed as friends in the most interesting path we’ve ever gotten for such in comics. First they were outright enemies dating back to Kate’s first appearance during the Dark Phoenix Saga. Then they maintained a professional dislike through Astonishing X-Men. But the Krakoa era transformed them into a uniquely caring and mutual respectful relationship. Seeing the duo train the next general of X-Men will be a fascinating next step in their relationship.
