Celebrate Five Years Of ‘Something Is Killing The Children’ With Two New One-Shots

by Brendan M. Allen

As it crosses its 5th anniversary, the ‘Slaughterverse’ created by James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera continues to expand in stories and scope. Closing out this milestone year are two not-to-miss one-shot specials celebrating the story so far.

First is the epic conclusion to Maxine Slaughter’s transformation from White Mask to Black Mask in Book of Cutter. The final step of her journey takes her across the Atlantic into Europe to train with the enigmatic and deadly House of Cutter.

Featuring a main cover by Dan Mora and variant covers by series co-creator Werther Dell’Edera, Khary Randolph, and more, Book of Cutter #1 will be available in comic shops December 25, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.

Next is The Art Of Something Is Killing The Children Companion #1, an oversized issue featuring a curated collection of the most iconic Something is Killing the Children covers of the past 5 years.

The Art Of Something Is Killing The Children Companion #1 will be available in comic shops December 4, 2024. It is available for pre-order at your local comic shop.

“It’s been thrilling to chart Maxine’s journey from Archer’s Peak to her new life as the only sanctioned Black Mask in the House of Slaughter. These annual specials have been an incredible way to explore and expand the world and lore of the Slaughterverse — and now, with Book of Cutter, we’re pulling the curtain back on the Order of St. George itself,” said Tynion. “The Great House has its eyes on the House of Slaughter, and Maxine is about to get a glimpse of the dangers waiting for the American Houses…”

“After three books, Maxine Slaughter has become one of my favorite characters!” added Dell’Edera. “I can’t wait to see what will happen when Maxine and Erica’s paths eventually collide!”
