RGG Studios Reveals ‘Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii’

by Sage Ashford

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios has decided to send players out on the open seas, as they’ve announced their next title: Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.  This new title focuses on an amnesiac Goro Majima, who awakens on Rich Island, a land close to Hawaii…but one plagued by pirates. Despite the odds being against him, Majima takes out the heads of a pirate group…only to create a crew of his own.

In search of his memories, Majima sets out to Nele Island, bringing him into conflict with other mafia and pirate clans. Along the way, he learns of the Lost Treasure of the Esperanza, which brings him into conflict with the powerful Queen Michele, ruler of Madlantis, home of more pirates and unruly rogues. Of course, no pirate game is complete without ship to ship combat, and crew vs. crew battles, so fortunately RGG Studios has already confirmed both are present.

To bring proper swashbuckling energy, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii reverts back to Yakuza’s classic action combat. There, Majima has two different styles: the classic “Mad Dog” style that emphasizes Majima’s speed, or the new “Sea Dog” style that involves dual-wielding blades and a number of other unrevealed weapons. They’ve also added a jump to Majima’s style, introducing juggling and aerial combat for the first time.

It seems impossible RGG Studios is already prepared for another Like A Dragon title, but nonetheless this game is only a few months off. Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launches February 25th for Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Steam.
