Bad Guys And Bad Choices: ‘Night Club 2’ #2 Advance Review

Summary
Rufus Tee may be a vampire but that doesn’t make him immune from making bad choices. And with bad choices come consequences. A character-driven issue with no room for doubting who gets our sympathies.
Overall
9/10Night Club 2 #2 continues to be Rufus Tee’s time to shine. Or maybe not. Isolating himself from his friends he still thinks he’s one of the good guys, even if the company he’s currently keeping suggests otherwise. There’s action, love-making and a huge mistake made, in an issue that fleshes out Rufus’s character and wins the reader’s sympathies.
Writer and co-creator Mark Millar,fills this character-driven issue with a cast who don’t seem to see Rufus’s worth as a person. Rather he is someone to exploit or expel. He may be stronger now he’s a vampire but Millar does a good job of presenting him as emotionally vulnerable. But, much like Luke had Ben Kenobi, Rufus has his grandfather. Here’s hoping his sage words are enough.
Artist Juanan Ramírez once more proves he is a Jedi Master of anatomy portraying a multitude of shots varying from action to amorous romance and bloodshed. Fabiana Mascolo provides the differing tones with well-chosen colour palettes that always fit the mood and enhance the drama.
Rufus goes through the wringer in this one and probably has a lot more to go through yet. A sad figure who’s made wrong choices and is now paying for them. Melodrama, manipulation and mutilation, all served up in a well-paced and well-executed issue.
