Jumping On: Series Premieres, One-Shots, And New Story Arcs Popping Off On September 25, 2024

by Brendan M. Allen

One of the most frustrating things about finding new comics to read and enjoy is finding a good jumping on point. It can be confusing and disheartening to pick up a single issue from the middle of an arc without having the context of the previous chapters.

With that in mind, here are a few New Story Arcs, Series Premieres, and One-Shots that caught my eye for this upcoming New Comic Book Day, Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Featured One-Shots, Series Premieres, and New Story Arcs:

Creepshow #1, Image

I saw Creepshow at way too early an age, and it imprinted on me forever. “Meteor shit!” is still one of the best lines in any film ever. Fight me. I absolutely LOVE that this franchise continues this week with another anthology, featuring stories from Chip Zdarsky and James Stokoe

Hell’s Half Acre #1, Magma Comix

While life constantly changes in 1904 Nashville, the sins of the past live free in a place called Hell’s Half Acre. You can find gambling, sex and most any other debauchery ever imagined. None do it better than Miss Marion’s, where a mysterious gambler named Britt sets in motion a chain of events that will have lawmen and outlaws alike aiming to put him six feet under. Will the woman that Britt scorned be his downfall or salvation when Hell comes calling?

Survival Street: The Radical Left #1, Dark Horse

The sharp political satire action-adventure played out through living puppets returns.

After America is sold off to private companies, this A-B-C-Team of ex-entertainers rescues kids from cruel company towns. But Portland can’t hold everyone, and the cracks are about to break…

A candy coating of pop culture madness, humor, cartoonishly absurd hyper-violence, and just enough hope to keep holding on.
