Fantastic Fest 2024: ‘Plastic Guns’

by Tito W. James

Directed by Jean-Christophe Meurisse, Plastic Guns is an absurdist dark comedy that follows several sets of characters who are trying to track down a criminal wanted for murdering his own family. Plastic Guns spits in the face of traditional Hollywood filmmaking– new protagonists are introduced at the drop of a hat with theme music to boot. There are moments that are wickedly funny and other moments that are harrowingly uncomfortable. Dark, transgressive, and imaginatively bizarre, Plastic Guns knows what people desire out of a cult film and delivers in spades.
