January’s Ultimate Marvel Stories Introduce New Versions Of Big Heroes

Marvel’s Ultimate Comics line has been the freshest take on the Marvel Universe since … well, the original Ultimate Comics line. In January some huge Marvel characters make their Earth-6160 debut.
Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri’s The Ultimates continues to take the basics of the Marvel Universe and turns them on their head. This time, we get to meet the first ever Ultimate take on the Guardians of the Galaxy, bringing Cosmo, the Ultimate Nullifier, Captain Marvel and Star-Lord to Earth from the future. This new team’s arrival may bring the secret for the Ultimates to defeat the Maker!
“The creative goal we set for ourselves on Ultimates — in addition to telling complete stories every issue — was to create (or recreate) characters interesting enough to sustain readers’ imaginations and their own series, if they had to,” Camp explained. “Whether we’ve succeeded on either count is up to the readers to decide, but the reaction so far has been really special. I am so grateful for it, and am doing my best to be worthy of it.
“Issue eight introduces the Ultimate Guardians of the Galaxy, and I hope readers enjoy meeting the heroes of the future as much as I enjoyed writing them! It’s our most cosmic issue to date, the life and death of universes in 20 pages, and explores new sides of the Ultimate Universe through Ultimate America Chavez, who has quickly become a favorite of mine.”
Meanwhile, the end of year one of Ultimate Black Panther #12 by Bryan Edward Hill and Stefano Caselli sees T’Challa face the Moon Knight in the final battle for the fate of Wakanda. In Ultimate X-Men #11 by Peach Momoko finds Maystorm taking the lead of a new team of Mutants. And perhaps most exciting, the Sinister Six is on the trail of Peter Parker and Harry Osborn, and Ultimate Spider-Man #13 shows Kraven get the upper hand from Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto.
