Meet Hulkette In November’s ‘Spider-Boy’ #13

by Tony Thornley

Marvel Comics’ New Champions variant covers made a splash last year. Ever since, the characters have made their way into Marvel canon themselves. In November another member of the group makes her debut in Spider-Boy #13.

Bailey Briggs was the character that inspired the New Champions, after his debut as Spider-Boy made huge waves among fans. First Maystorm appeared in Ultimate X-Men, then Liberty in Spider-Woman and Amaranth in Scarlet Witch. It now comes full circle as Hulkette makes her first appearance in Bailey’s own series from Dan Slott & Paco Medina.

She may be tiny, but she packs a big punch. As Spider-Boy and Daredevil’s Madripoor adventure continues, the duo find themselves face to face with the tiny powerhouse Hulkette and her mentor Enormo!

“We’ll learn more about Hulkette and her powers as she faces off against Spider-Boy and Daredevil,” explains Slott. “There’s a big surprise in store for Marvel fans when we finally drop the secret of her origins… but for now, if you want to see this pint-sized powerhouse throw her first punches on the page, this is the issue where her journey begins.”

Spider-Boy has been an incredibly fun, extremely underrated series. Though at first, it simply seemed like it was trying to force a character over, Bailey has become an interesting and important part of the Marvel Universe. He continues to grow and definitely seems to be here to stay. Using him to help introduce more new legacy heroes in the universe just makes sense.
