Nick Fury Uncovers The Maker’s Secrets In December’s ‘Ultimate Universe: One Year In’

In the original Ultimate Marvel universe, Nick Fury was one of the most interesting and crucial characters to the entire mythology of that universe. It’s only fitting that the final months of the universe’s first phase introduces the Earth-6160 version of the superspy.
Nick Fury has been a big part of the Marvel Universe off and on for decades, both in universe and behind the scenes. Starting as war hero Sgt. Fury, then becoming the director of SHIELD, the original Nick Fury was central to the goings-on of our favorite heroes. Creatively, the Nick Fury stories of the mid-1960s helped change the art form of comics forever with Jim Steranko’s innovative storytelling. In the early 2000s, the white cigar-chomping spy with a crewcut got a makeover, this version inspired by eventual Fury actor Samuel L. Jackson.
But this Fury is not that Nick Fury.
In the newly revealed pages from Denis Camp & Jonas Scharf, Earth-6160’s Nick Fury appears to be a superhuman hunter, finding and imprisoning some of the more unusual beings from the Marvel U. Exactly what role he plays in this universe will unfold in Camp and Scharf’s Ultimate Universe: One Year In.
On crafting the issue, Camp said, “With Ultimate Universe: One Year In, my goals were simple: Create an entryway for new readers into the Ultimate Universe; reward longtime readers, especially those who have wanted more connective tissue between the Ultimate books; AND set the stage for the next year of stories, as we build towards the return of the Maker. All this while telling a complete and satisfying one-issue story from the bad guys’ point of view! It’s going to be dark, it’s going to be kind of cruel, and, thanks to Jonas Scharf, it’s going to be beautiful.”
The issue will also feature a special prelude to Ultimate Wolverine by Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio, revealing the Maker’s greatest weapon, the Winter Soldier… But this isn’t the soldier we know…
