Dynamite Adds Mark Spears For ‘ThunderCats: Apex’ FOC Cover

Mark Spears’ Monsters is known for its creator’s special vision of horror and, well, monsters. And just as Final Order Cutoff approaches for Dynamite’s Thundercats: Apex one-shot, he joins the stable of artists contributing covers to the issue.
His first cover for the company features Apex, the mysterious new ThunderCat introduced in ThunderCats#8. But as previously reported, Apex — from writer Ed Brisson and artist Rapha Lobosco — will put the character center stage. Nevertheless, secrets about Apex remain. Even the company’s own description of what to expect in the special sets a mood of intrigue: “Across a desert landscape, a cloaked rider emerges from the shimmering heat. A lone figure on a battered mount, he’s a tempting target for bandits — and temptation is not something that the inhabitants of these badlands are inclined to resist. Unfortunately for the miscreants who decide to waylay him, that choice will likely be the last one they ever make. And when the dusty traveler walks into the local saloon, it soon becomes clear that anyone who stands between him and his mission will share the same fate.” With a glowing red eye, Apex has identified prey of his own and the tale will offer details of what or who he truly stalks. The special also sets up details for a new storyline set to begin in ThunderCats #11.
In addition to Spears’ cover (below), Dynamite will be offering virgin and virgin foil variants of the cover at certain order thresholds.
The new cover joins the ones previously announced from ThunderCats series writer Declan Shalvey, Lucio Parrillo, Meghan Hetrick, and Jae Lee.
ThunderCats: Apex is due out in December.
