Review: ‘Gargoyles Quest’ #4 Holds Attention For The Ending

Writer Greg Weisman creates a mostly readable issue. Though there are some unnecessary words and pauses. Also: at one point he brings up the topic of time passing. This is a problem as the miniseries is seeing schedule slippage, much like the prior 12 issue series Gargoyles (2022-2024). His script also contains a moment in which he has a character talk unnaturally in the third person. Still, Weisman does move the plot forward in a way that is interesting enough to see this miniseries through to its upcoming end.

The interior visuals are by artist Pasquale Qualano and colorist Arianna Stefani. Qualano is not always consistent with the proportions. However, Qualano for the most part, does a good enough job with the proportions that they mainly work. It is worth mentioning that Qualano could also do better with laying out pages and panels. Some are too far or too close to others resulting in timing and/or clutter issues. While Stefani is consistent with the color palettes, some of the choices are a bit too off-model. Such is the case with Goliath looking overly purple.

Letterer Jeff Eckleberry does an impressive job fitting all the text on each page, especially the ones that have way too many words. He also does a great job with the bits of text that lack word balloons.

The covers are by artists Clayton Crain, Jae Lee (with colorist June Chung), Drew Moss, and Marco Mastrazzo. While each features a different design that is high quality, one can argue whether they are appealing to non-die hard fans.

Packager/editor Nate Cosby could be doing a better job with noticing some of the problems that this review mentions. Yet, the real flaw seems to be Cosby’s not keeping this series on a consistent release schedule, and thus this reviewer suggests Cosby get an assistant editor.
