Writer Daniel Kibblesmith Gets Dangerous In Dynamite’s Upcoming ‘Darkwing Duck’

When there’s trouble, you call DW.

After an short hiatus, Dynamite’s Darkwing Duck is returning with writer Daniel Kibblesmith at the helm, the company announced Thursday. In a statement, he said, “I am the writer who scripts in the night. I am (writing) Darkwing Duck. And I couldn’t feel luckier. Let’s get dangerous — and let’s get pre-ordered!” Joining him on the new ongoing title are artists Ted Brandt and Ro Stein, colorist Dearbhla Kelly, and letterer Fabio Amelia. Also, Darkwing’s creator, Tad Stones, will be making contributions to series, including a variant cover.

“I was delighted with Dynamite bringing Darkwing Duck and family back to comics with three, count ‘em three, titles featuring his super pals and his ultimate nemesis, and then they dragged me into the craziness for a bunch of variant covers on this new series,” Stones added. “The stories and art I’ve seen have captured the comedy and adventure of the original series while bringing a fresh take on it all. Thrilled to be a part of it!”

On the inside, the new series aims to answer some questions about the title character. How did he “develop his redoubtable reputation?” What were his early days of crime fighting like and what wisdom did he accrue in those unsure early adventures? Gosalyn, for one, really wants the answers and, of course, DW is ready and willing to discuss any and all things related to himself. Granted, the conversation may lead outside the strictures of linear time, logic, or veracity.

In addition to Stone’s cover, the premiere issue will be support by variants from Brandt and Stein, Mark Bagley, Nicoletta Baldari, and Ciro Cangialosi.

Darkwing Duck #1 arrives in comic shops this February.
