Tony Thornley Joins The Comicon Editorial Team

You may have noticed a few more themed weeks in the last month here at Comicon. Venom Week, one of those multi-day initiatives, was the brainchild of our new special projects editor Tony Thornley. In addition to helping the senior editors get posts ready for the day, he’s also looking to curate and orchestrate more things like Venom Week. Another example: he and Art for Art’s Sake Richard Bruton are working together to bring more voices to the 2024 Advent Calendar. Tony also has another special project in the works that you should see the results of very soon.
A self-described “Mormon geek dad,” Tony is a blogger, Spider-Man expert, Superman aficionado, and X-Men guru — talents he also shares with the good folks at ComicsXF. His knowledge base quickly make him indispensable here at Comicon, leading him to become one of our principal reviewers very quickly. His attention to every aspect of comics has made him invaluable as he, along with Scott Redmond, paid particular attention to the efforts of the letters on each title he reviews. Born and raised in Utah, he started reading comics since age five. GI Joe was his first title and thanks to the time being something a flat circle, he reviews the new Skybound Joe series here.
He also counts himself as an “autism daddy” and an amateur novelist, but steely-eyed readers will also notice he has an interest in toys, expressed at Comicon via his reviews of the Turtles of Greyskull line. It was the perfect fit as both the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and He-Man are also particular points of fascination for Tony.
So expect more variety from him in the future, both as a writer and as an editor here at the site. We definitely look forward to what else he’ll add to our collective and what he thinks of next. Welcome, Tony! We’d add the classic X-Men follow-up phrase, “hope you survive the experience,” but we know the site is far less tricky than the Danger Room or battling the Brotherhood. Well, we think it is.
