A24 Unleashes A Horned Horse Horror With The Upcoming ‘Death Of A Unicorn’
by Anton Kromoff
Welcome to the table,
Check this out…
Yeah … rad, I know!
So that was the trailer for A24’s upcoming grim comedy Death of a Unicorn. Alex Scharfman is writing and directing this one and the cast is a who’s who of current fan favorites: Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, and Richard E. Grant.
The plot of Scharfman’s directorial debut seems to follow a father-daughter duo who accidentally run down a unicorn while driving to a secluded mansion full of eccentric and seemingly tedious wealthy people. All involved then use the unicorn to create a cure for cancer, among other things (I feel like someone is going to snort unicorn horn dust before this movie is over). In the midst of the the 1%ers feeling so good about themselves — and the even greater wealth in their future — a larger unicorn arrives and begins to puncture everyone with wild abandoned as it tries to find its offspring.

As someone who has often said that unicorns are diabolical and loves unleashing these horned horses upon my Dungeons & Dragons parties to watch the soft whispers of “Awww, look how majestic” turn to “Oh god! Run!” as one of these equine monstrosities drives it’s magical head dagger into some poor woodland creature provides me boundless joy.
This trailer feels like it was custom cut to my piratical flavor of humor and horror bound together with some absolutely wonderful fantasy nonsense and I can’t wait to see more!
Until next time, this is easily one of my most anticipated films of 2025 so stay tuned as I will be slinging more news as it comes in.
