Previewing The Upcoming WizKids ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ … Dragons

Welcome to the table,
There is not much in the TTRPG space more iconic than Dragons. Those who like to argue can say Mimics or Beholders, but I mean, the largest TTRPG in the world is Dungeons & Dragons … Dragons are right there in the name.
For years now, we have had the dragon designs that were made popular by the 3rd edition of D&D serving as our point of reference for what these iconic creatures look like. This may soon change as the dragons have received redesigns that we will be talking more about in the upcoming 2024 D&D Monster Manual, set to release early in 2025.
While there have been some small peeks through various convention showcases and images in the 2024 Players Handbook and Dungeon Masters Guide, the most front-on views of what these new dragons are going to look like have been revealed by my pals at WizKids in the form of the Adult Red Dragon Tyrant (2024) and the Adult Black Dragon Corruptor (2024)
The Adult Red Dragon Tyrant is huge sitting atop it’s 75mm base. The mini has an 8-inch wingspan and while we do not have a ton of lore to go on, the lack of ivory horns, larger, almost demon-like wings, and crimson and ebony scale coloration really sets this apart from the red dragons of the past.
The Black Dragon Corruptor is also a brilliant update to the classic bone dragon form of the swamp-dwelling Black Dragons we have had since 3.0 D&D. The face is more melted away to a bone visage due to the acid breath. The curving, almost demonic horns, and the tail that frankly looks like something out of a movie with power-loaders and chest-bursters is nothing short of epic.
Both of these new designs have me really excited for what comes next and what the other chromatic dragons, and metallic dragons for that matter are going to look like.
Only time will tell, but as of this moment, you can head over to the WizKids store online and pre-order your very own winged bundles of death and destruction to drop at your table when they release later in 2025.
