The Day Is Saved As Dynamite Collects ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ Vol. 1

by Erik Amaya

The City of Townsville can rest easy, The Powerpuff Girls is getting a collected edition.

Dynamite announced Wednesday the imminent arrival of The Powerpuff Girls Vol. 1: The Day is Saved. Writer Kelly Thompson and artists Paulina Ganucheau, Karen S. Darboe, and Miriana Puglia tell new tales of Blossom, Bubbles, Buttercup. Also along for their adventures are Professor Utonium, Mojo Jojo, HIM, Big Bang and the other characters who populate Townsville for both good or ill.

As in the original animated program’s premise, the book follows the three young girls who were given extraordinary powers when their father/inventor, Professor Utonium, added Chemical X to the building blocks of their structure. Since that time, they have been sworn to fight evil where ever it may appear … although it is often near their doorstep. At the time the series was announced, Kelly said, “I have to say, I am a very big fan of The Powerpuff Girls … So much so that when I was young — just out of art school — I even wrote a few short stories and began to storyboard them in hopes I could get a job on the show! So this just feels… exactly right. I was over the moon to get the offer.”

In addition to the first three issues of the series, The Day is Saved will also feature The Powerpuff Girls Halloween Special from Amanda Deibert and Cat Staggs. In that story, Buttercup has her eye on winning a contest hosted by the Townsville Gazette and centered on fashioning the best horror comic costume. Her quest may lead her to a potentially haunted hotel, but with nowhere to trick or treat nearby, Bubbles and Blossom will need to convince her to consider an alternate way to show off her costume and enjoy the festivities around town.

Also expect a cover gallery. The collected volume will be available in both hardcover and paperback editions to fit the preferences of any collector.

The Powerpuff Girls Vol. 1: The Day is Saved arrives in shops this March.
