WizKids Preview: ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Edge Of The Realms – Fields Of Faerûn’

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

I am someone who spent more time wandering the wild spaces along the Sword Coast, swimming in the Sea of Stars, and navigating the Silver Marches than the wilderness near me in real life. Yes friends, as a disabled person I could not really go on hikes and windy walks down by the beach. The world, at least where I was, was not exactly accessible then … come to think of it, it’s not really accessible now. This is a thought for another time though, because right now we are talking about the spaces I could explore. The places found in the pages of my favorite novels. Most of them where in the Forgotten Realms and that brings me to a new offering from my pals at WizKids.

Dungeons & Dragons: Edge of the Realms – Fields of Faerûn is a new hybrid card and board game experience designed by Phil Walker-Harding. In this tile placing adventure, players are going to be exploring and charting out the sprawling landscape of the Forgotten Realms while uncovering legendary locations, magic-filled places, and terrifying terrain as they fulfill quest objectives.

From what I can tell so far, the gameplay is fluid and engaging, making it easy for both those who love to meander in thought, like myself, and those who like a more fast casual gaming experience, like my friends who get irritated when I want to dig too deep into lore. It seems like the game’s unique vibes are brought to life with original tile art by Gerralt Landman. The imagess on these cards seems to really capture the beauty and intrigue of the Forgotten Realms. I also really like that it does not matter if you are a regular traveler of the Realms or a newcomer to the world of D&D, because Edge of the Realms promises to deliver a fresh and immersive take on map-making, in game form, in the landscape of the well-developed Faerûn.

The game is set to launch nationwide in June of 2025, and is now available for pre-order at the link.

Until next time, I’m hoping there is a VTT version of this as well. I know I’m going to get the physical version but an electronic copy I could play online with friends farther away would be rad.
