As we enter a new year it’s the perfect time to celebrate the amazing animation we’ve had over the past year.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Lara Croft is at her best when she’s raiding tombs, bantering with her allies, and fighting bad guys. This incarnation of the Tomb Raider dials up the adventure, pulp, and supernatural elements that have been sorely missing from the series for too long. This is an animated series that embraces every era of the Croft mythos while also adding in many welcome additions. The greatest triumph of the program, though, is the evolution of Lara as a character. Yes, she is still a heartthrob action heroine, but she also has pathos, vulnerability, and hubris.
Arcane Season 2
After two seasons and eighteen episodes, the steampunk fantasy saga of Arcane has finally concluded. The first season took the world by storm and united fans of action animation, anime, video games, sci-fi, fantasy, and comic books. This is a world without clear-cut heroes and villains. The show celebrates the beauty and imperfection of humanity in all its forms. I know that many people will see themselves in these characters and I hope Arcane will give viewers the power to take the world head on.
