‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Trailer Violently Announces The Return To Hell’s Kitchen
by Erik Amaya
As though to prove that things are back on track, Disney released a trailer for Daredevil: Born Again that features a montage of violence.
The anticipated series stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, the lawyer and — as we learn in the preview — ex-vigilante who once haunted the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. But the life of violence is never far behind him, especially as Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofiro) has ascended to mayor of New York and White Tiger (Kamar de los Reyes) makes his way to the five boroughs. Oh, and there’s always the violence Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) represents just by breathing.
Oh, but there are so many questions. What line was crossed that forced Matt to both the Daredevil of Hell’s Kitchen? Did his relationship with Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) end like so many of his romances do? And what of Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson)?
The program is also a curious twist on the Marvel format for Disney+. It is planned for more than one season. It is also, in its way, a continuation of the previous Netflix Daredevil series, but it also has to fit into the greater gestalt of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, the original series was supposed to as well, but those connections were limited to referring to the Battle of New York as “the Incident” and tacit name-checks of various superheroes. This time, it’s more about mixing the violent world Matt and Fisk inhabit with the lighter parts of MCU New York. That’s not to say we expect cameos from Maslany or other notable faces outside Born Again‘s immediate cast, but striking a tone that blends the MCU with the Daredevil style will be a challenge for the series.
Nevertheless, we’re looking forward to seeing how the program mixes those two directives when Daredevil: Born Again debuts on March 4th.
