Nintendo Offers A First Look At The ‘Nintendo Switch 2’

After weeks and months (and even years) of speculation, Nintendo has finally provided a first-look at the successor to their Nintendo Switch console, the Nintendo Switch 2. In a very straightforward commercial, Nintendo showed off some of the various changes from the Switch to the Switch 2, including a larger screen, and redesigned Joycons.
Outside of that, this is a very low-key reveal. The next Mario Kart was teased, but no other games were shown. Instead, Nintendo confirmed there’s a Nintendo Direct focusing on the Switch 2 coming April 2nd. They’ll also be holding hands-on Switch 2 events around the world in April and May. For North America, the locations and dates are:
- New York – April 4th – April 6th
- Los Angeles – April 11tth – April 13th
- Dallas – April 25th – April 27th
- Toronto – April 25th – April 27th
Meanwhile, Europe can expect a similar wave of events:
- Paris – April 4th – April 6th
- London April 11th to April 13th
- Milan – April 25th – April 27th
- Berlin – April 25th – April 27th
- Madrid – May 9th – May 11th
- Amsterdam – May 9th – May 11th
While there’s a lot we’re still in the dark about, there was one major thing confirmed here: the Nintendo Switch 2 will be capable of playing both “Switch 2 exclusives” and physical/digital Nintendo Switch games, meaning the console is indeed backwards compatible. Although, subsequent reporting suggests games like 1-2-Switch and other titles using the IR camera will not function on the new console. In the meantime, let the speculation continue as we await the now-officially dubbed Switch 2.
