Writer Tim Seely Orchestrates ‘Red Sonja Vs. The Army of Darkness’ This April

It was only a matter of time before Red Sonja faced the Deadites.

Dynamite announced Thursday the upcoming Red Sonja vs. The Army of Darkness, a face-off of medieval proportions courtesy of writer Tim Seely and artist Jim Terry. Ash is once again lost in time and space, but this trip will bring him face-to-face with the She-Devil with a Sword. How will the two get on? Are they too similar to cooperate or just the right combination of might and wit?

No matter what, they will have to work together when the dread wizard of the Hyborian Age, Kulan Gath, learns about the Necronomicon. Can they get their act together in time to stop him for using the book for his own twisted purposes?

Seeley has long been associated with Army of Darkness thanks to various comic book covers and a crossover between his Hack/Slash series and Ash. “I’ve been obsessed with AoD since I saw the movie way back in 1992 — in fact, the first Hack/Slash story began life as a pitch to get the rights for AoD for comics!” he said in a statement. “Having Red Sonja teamed with Ash, a character I know really well, lets me really emphasize her badass feminist qualities, as Ash is an often befuddled sexist idiot.”

As it happens, the book will be his first time writing for Sonja, and he hopes to give the character, at an early part of her life, a modernized spin, but any similarities to the work of Roy Thomas and Frank Thorne are purely on purpose.
