Wizkids Takes Us On A Dazzling Adventure To The Underdark

Welcome to the table,
Drizzt Do’Urden is a Drow, one of the subterranean species of elves that exist deep below Abeir-Tori, the planet on which Dungeons & Dragons‘ The Forgotten Realms is set upon. I grew up reading the stories of this pensive, confused, and often grumpy Drow and his adventures as he fled his homelands in excel on a sojourn to find his place in the world.
The world he was leaving was a strange and dangerous place known as the Underdark, a vast subterranean world where monsters and mysteries abound. Of course, in a world without the light of the sun, a biome of total darkness, it’s difficult to even see these lurking horrors as they stalk and slither through the underground world.
They glow! Well some do, other creatures who live in the Underdark have darkvision, or in the older books, an ability called infravision. The creatures who had access to it could see the world in brightly colored hues akin to seeing in the infrared spectrum.
This infravision ability was a fascinating part of the lore because it seemed to take things that may already have bioluminescent glows and give them a whole new spectrum of hues and tones, shifting and giving the physical form of these creatures multiple ways to be perceived.
This concept seems like a really hard thing to translate to the table, but my pals at WizKids have figured it out. Their new set of minis, Dungeons & Dragons Icons of the Realms: Underdark Expeditions.
This upcoming set of 44 pre-painted D&D minis is going to include some of the most iconic monsters in the game, including the Hook Horror, Darkmantle, Umber Hulk, Xorn, and more!
This set also introduces WizKids DungeonGlo feature, an effect which adds a glow-in-the-dark element to select parts of the minis. Available in a variety of colors, the DungeonGlo effect charges under light, creating an immersive glow that enhances the adventurers at your tabletop.
What I dig about the DungeonGlo feature is that it not only gives you some new dynamic play, but it also is not limited to the rare figures. You will be able to find minis with DungeonGlo across all levels of availability in the set.
As a fan of the Underdark, Drow, and all things set below the world this set really knocks it out of the park for me. WizKids is constantly elevating ways to enhance table top play. This set feels like it is going to be a mainstay in most players’ collections for years to come.

Until next time, mind flayers and Drow are some of the coolest monsters in D&D and their lore is vast and expansive. This set really is going to make so many people happy. With WizKids Drizzt sets I really feel like some cool table top adventures are in our future.
