More From Dark & Golden Books’ 2x Series – Carol Swain’s ‘Eating Out’ & ‘Loony Tune Life’

The latest 2x release from indie small publisher Dark & Golden Books, always exploring the glorious fringes of comics, brings two of legendary comic maker Carol Swain‘s old works back into much needed print.

Another great bit of release news from Dark & Golden Books, who have a habit of finding important comics that could have been lost to us and bringing them back into print, are going to be releasing two of Carol Swain’s excellent short pieces in their 2x series (which has already seen work from Chris Reynolds and Peter Milligan/Brett Ewins.

Carol Swain’s work here in this new release has Eating Out from 1993 and Looney Tune Life from 1994. These were both done only a few years into her comics career, which got off to a start in 1988 with her self-published Way Out Strips. These two strips are both from her Way Out Strips series and have never been reprinted. In addition to the two strips from Swain, the 2x book will feature a new introduction and a new interview with Swain. Both works pre-date her debut graphic novel, Invasion of the Mind Sappers, published by Fantagraphics in 1996. The Welsh-based artist has many books to her name, including Foodboy (2004), Crossing The Empty Quarter & Other Stories (2009), Giraffes In My Hair (2009, with Bruce Paley), and Gast (2014), as well as plentiful appearances in anthologies.

Her work is all about those on the fringes, Swain building rich character pieces in her unique artistic style, often at least partly autobiographical, always beautiful, something that looks at the riches to be found in the everyday.
