ICYMI: ‘Superman’ Sneak Peek Reveals “Home”

by Erik Amaya

Since the teaser trailer for this summer’s Superman debuted, many have wondered where “home” is. The scene, as played out in the initial tease, saw an injured Superman (David Corenswet) calling for Krypto to take him home. And as any Superman fan knows, Clark has at least three homes — four if you count the planet Krypton itself — his apartment in Metropolis, the Kent Farm in Smallville, and the Fortress of Solitude in one of Earth’s polar regions (the location varies by era and author).

Thankfully, we know the answer to this specific “home” directive thanks to an extended sneak peek screened at Cinemacon earlier this week. In the new preview, it is clear Clark is referring to the Fortress as Krypto (after some roughhousing) takes him there. Once inside, a gaggle of automatons with way too much personality assist Clark with his injuries. You can check it out for yourself as DC Studios made the video available on YouTube (embedded above). You can also get a better feel for what the film will be like.

So far, we’re pretty jazzed. It looks and feels like the Superman movie we want. It remains to be seen how the rest of the movie will work, especially considering director James Gunn set a challenge for himself few have ever mastered: making hawk-people look cool. But the attention paid to give Krypto and the Fortress bots personality suggests he will find a way to make everyone, even Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), shine.

The extended preview also offers a few glimpses of the eventual threat Superman must face as events reach a crisis point. Is it the reason Superman is injured in the Fortress scene? What else could possibly hurt Clark so severely. Also: where is the Authority in all of this? While we know the Engineer (María Gabriela de Faría) will have some sort of antagonistic presence in the film, is she the lone member of the team? Questions remains and will only be answered when Superman flies into theaters on July 11th.
