Throwback Newsprint Horror Comes To Kickstarter With ‘Stash Box’

Prepare for a dose of psychedelic suburban horror. Oversized throwback horror comic Stash Box launched on Kickstarter on April 7. Printed on newsprint and cut to invoke horror comics of yesteryear, the story of young love twisted into something otherworldly is aimed at nostalgic dreadheads.

Stash Box is written by Ian Mondrick and illustrated by Frederik Hornung. Their tale of young love, drugs, and transformation is designed to shock and terrify audiences, while provoking deeper thought about the future of our youngest generations. The comic follows Harrison and Lou, as they explore an empty one-floor house at the end of a suburban street. Looking for nothing more than a good time, these two young lovers will unwittingly become embroiled in a terrifying secret that will change the face of our planet forever. 

“This is a book for adult fans of horror first and foremost– there’s gore, terror, death, blood and violence,”  said Mondrick of the project. “But to Frederik and me, horror is about more than the gross-out. We need to elevate the story, make it something to think about, to puzzle over. We think that mixture of the two “halves” of horror is the sweet spot we’re always looking to hit.”

The comic showcases retro design, art, and marketing. The Kickstarter campaign also features a pinup by sensational artist Ahmed Raafat as well as a host of other rewards. Digital copies of the are available at the $8 pledge level. Physical copies kick in at the $15 level.
