Earlier this month, Amazing Spider-Man relaunched with a bang, surprising a lot of fans- me included. In July, the drama gets turned up to 11.
Teased in the epilogue to the debut issue, July’s Amazing Spider-Man #7 & 8 from Joe Kelly and John Romita Jr find Peter Parker facing one of the most terrifying villains he’s fought yet- Hellgate. The intimidating new villain’s plans just start here, leading up to the upcoming issue #975.
In Amazing Spider-Man #7, the Hellgate is open! Spider-Man fights for his life – literally – as he tries to keep Hellgate from devastating Manhattan. But what does this unexpected new foe want? And can Peter solve it before his day gets a whole lot worse?!
The battle continues in Amazing Spider-Man #8 as the city watches in horror as Spider-Man experiences the worst beating of his life. What can Spider-Man do to survive? There MUST be something!
Hellgate definitely seems to be a different kind of villain than what Peter Parker normally faces. The design reminds me quite a bit of DC’s Wonder Woman villain Ares. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what the villain is. Peter is no stranger to ultra-powerful mystical villains, but I hope he’s not just a rehash of those.
